THE WINE FRONT w w w . w i n e f r o n t . c o m . a u May 2007 THE RED ISSUE (Part 2) Page 2 WINE OF THE MONTH PICARDY PEMBERTON PINOT NOIR 2005 Belter. Great expression, great structure, great flavour and great value. This is a multiple buy if you’re a pinot fan. Sweet-sour flavours, ripe definition, lots of chalky, earthen tannin and real length. Complex, tangy, tannic pinot noir – and it will cellar. I’ve drunk two bottles of this and while the second bottle showed a hint ofeucalypt, I still loved it. It’s a ripper. Drink: 2007-2015. 93 points. Picardy Pemberton Shiraz 2005 Ah yes, this is good. It’s spicy, creamy, medium weight and brushed with earthen, cherried flavour, the juicy flow of it carrying through to a sustained, tannic, vigorous finish. Perfectly balanced. Totally unforced. Spicy, but not peppery. Will age delightfully. Lovely cool climate style. Drink: 2010-2017. 91 points. Picardy Pemberton Merlot Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Franc 2005 Great value for a very stylish wine. This is a premier merlot blend, made in the classical style. Full of graphite and mulberry and dark chocolate flavour, it feels balanced and sure in the mouth, ripe and even a touch exotic. Eve, temperate tannins take it out – this is highly cellarable, for 20 bucks. 53% merlot/24% cabernet sauvignon/23% cabernet franc. Drink: 2011-2016. 91 points. |
