Deep in Western Australia’s karri country is a rising regional star called Pemberton. Its wines are gaining recognition, its restaurants are evolving and its truffles are world-class.

“One of Pemberton’s most promising wineries, Picardy, was established by the Pannell family of Moss Wood Fame.”

PICARDY

Cnr Vasse Hwy & Eastbrook Rd, Pemberton, (08) 9776 0036, www.picardy.com.au.

Anyone with a serious interest in wine should take the time to make an appointment to visit the Pannell family’s Picardy operation. The immaculate vineyard and classy small winery are worth seeing, and a conversation with any of the Pannells will provide an insight into their enthusiasm, drive and determination to make the best wine possible.

2005 Picardy Pinot Noir

-          Pemberton, WA

A pinot of light colour and body but with a depth and intensity rarely found in Australia. Sweet raspberry and wild strawberry flavours interplay with mushroom, spices and a hint of beef-stock richness. The tannins are soft and mild with a gentle overlay of cedary oak.
