Tasting notes:
2014 Picardy Pinot Noir
Our 2014 Picardy Pinot Noir was identified as one of the top vintages of its time and selected to be held in our cellar for a future reserve release. The 2014 Pinot is now showing the benefits of a decade of careful cellaring & ready to savour.
Tasting note upon release by Erin Larkin:
“Herbal, savoury, spicy, black olive, pomegranate, black cherry, rose petals, resin and tar: there is precise delicacy on the palate but with great drive and length. This is nuanced and complex. Languid. Drawn out. The Pannells produce a classical style of pinot - it is not the bright fruit driven style that we have come to see in 'new world' pinot; it takes longer to get to know. It is subtle, spiced, structured, stemmy, silky. Every year this pinot is more refined. Sage, wild strawberry, star anise, and nutmeg. The structure and tannins are subtle yet sure. Great length of flavour. This is among the best yet.”
Tasting note after cellaring by Ray Jordan, WA Wine Review:
“This was a super year in the most parts of the State, and you can see the thoroughly beautifully expressive sweet and sour fruit characters immediately. First things, first. It totally belies its 10 years of age. Still with primary cherry and raspberry fruits but with that emergence of a meaty, truffly character the first signs of its maturity. Has a fine chalky acidity that is so much a part of great pinot ensuring it will continue to age. Gosh, I reckon this will still be trucking along in another 10 years.”

2020 Picardy Pinot Noir
Tasting note upon release by Ambrose Nock:
“Already radiating with pleasure, the gentle weather of 2021 has translated into a wine of up-front drinkability and charm. Slightly floral, showcasing red fruits at this stage: raspberries, strawberry compote and signature sour cherries. Stylistically more old world than new. Wedged between two bolder years, this year’s Estate Pinot has an innately refined, feminine beauty to it. As such, while never intended to catch your eye as the boldest piece of art in the gallery, its complexity and refinement will hold your gaze the longest"

2022 Picardy Pinot Noir
Tasting note by Ray Jordan:
“Here's a compelling case for holding back some of these wines. I looked at it 12 months ago, and while it was tidy and impressive then, that extra year to settle has improved it immeasurably, earning another tick from me. The aroma is floral and perfumed with cherries and plums, and the palate delivers with certainty and poise, showing slightly dried herb, leafy, and spicy nutmeg characters. Bolder and immediately more powerful statement of this wine, reflecting a warm vintage. Yet the cooler Pemberton region has reigned it in nicely, providing control and precision. A savoury and slightly mushroomy aroma with primary black cherry notes”

Key information:
This Pinot Noir has been grown from five specially selected clones of Pinot.
Made with 25% whole bunch and aged for 10 months in new to four year old fine French oak barriques. Whilst we believe our wines age best under cork, we have experienced some crumbling when removing the corks from the 2014 vintage so we recommend sifting into a decanter. From our extensive tastings, the wine inside is in excellent condition.
All wines under the Picardy label are made by the Pannell family from grapes sourced 100% from our own single vineyard Picardy estate. Our vines are non-irrigated for maximum flavour concentration and our grapes are hand-picked to ensure selection quality before being made and bottled on site.
